The Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Valencia hosts a mascletà every noon, from March 1 to 19. It is the essential act on each Falla day, when the cathedral known as the gunpowder cathedral becomes the epicentre of the Fallas at 2:00 p.m. Pirotecnia Aitana has designed a classic cut mascletà that will go in crescendo, culminating in a final earthquake that will make the foundations of the centre of Valencia rumble.
This Saturday, the square will vibrate with the company from Belgida, which will offer a show of precision and power for 360 seconds. And one of the characteristics that will turn this shot into a special one will be that it will have a total of 274 kilos of pyrotechnic material, staying one kilo from the maximum allowed in this area.
For security reasons, the Civil Guard established this year the maximum number of kilos of gunpowder that can be fired with 275 kilos and this year, as a novelty, the pyrotechnic is no longer allowed to exceed that amount by a margin of 10%. This margin did exist in the shows of previous years, but this year it is no longer allowed.
Remembered is the mascletà that closed the Fallas of 2024, when Mediterraneo deployed such a power (with about 330 kilos of material) that the shock wave came to fracture the windows of the Municipal Tourism Office, located on the ground floor of the consistory. The explosion also affected the broadcast that was being made by public television, À Punt, after leaving the monitors of the realisation without signal.
