This problem has happened for a lot of MAC based web developers, one way to fix it is to load the bad GIF files into another application (like photoshop) and re-save them, they should then contain all the necessary file info that IE needs to display them properlly.
The other option is for the web developer to save them as .PNG or .JPG, but this is not an option for users of Quark Express
