The Fallas castles on March 16 and 17 will be fired from five mobile platforms on the Monteolivete Bridge
It will be the first time in Spain that this system is used to reduce the viaduct closure from three days to three hours.
In this way, this year not only will the shot be moved from the Alameda road to the Monteolivete bridge, but it will also gain visibility and the time when the bridge was cut off to traffic will be remembered thanks to the use of four platforms and a fifth extendable.
As explained by Juanjo Soler and Daniel Tamarit, from Pirotecnia Vulcano and Tamarit, four truck platforms that support 15 tons and another extendable one that will support 30 more will be used for the first time in Spain.
As explained by the councilor of Fallas, Santiago Ballester, "it is a project that has been worked on all year after the Local Police, Civil Protection and Firefighters asked to achieve a lesser impact on mobility during the shooting of the castles."
Ballester added that it is a system that has been tested in some parts of Europe, such as in Luxembourg, "and that now in the capital of gunpowder, in Valencia, it will be done for the first time on a national level."
The platforms
Four of the platforms will support 15 tons and a fifth 30 tons. They will be waiting for the order to be given to place them in the central part of the bridge and, according to Tamarit and Soler, the operation can be completed in one hour.
Ballester has also explained that once the trucks have left the platforms in the center of the bridge, the heads of the trucks will be removed in order to begin shooting, which, in this case, will be done via radio.
These demonstrations were carried out by Ballester during the presentation of the mobile gondolas for firing fireworks, in the section of the Alameda near the Montolivet bridge, together with representatives of the Civil Guard, the National Police, the Fire Department and pyrotechnics professionals such as Vulcano and Tamarit.
Ballester has stressed with respect to mobility that with this innovation "we managed to keep the Montolivet bridge open until just a few hours before the castle shot, two or three according to what they tell us, and once the shot is fired the platforms will be removed and traffic will return to normal."
As Vulcano and Tamarit have explained, the pyrotechnic elements that will go on the platforms will be reinforced by earth bags and straps. To guarantee stability, a report has also been requested from the Department of Infrastructure to carry out a load study.
We must not forget that both in the July Fair and in the Nou d'Octubre festivities shots were already fired at the Monteolivete bridge and these were the first Fallas that the castles of the 16th, 17th and 18th were launched from this point.
Of course, on the 18th, which is the Nit del Foc, these mobile platforms will no longer be used because the shot has more charge and more explosive charges. As Ballester has indicated, "the amount of gunpowder is greater and we will proceed to close the bridge in one direction."
The objective of this test, the mobile platforms that will be located on the Monteolivete bridge, is that the castles of March 16 that Vulcano shoots, and of March 17 that Tamarit shoots, gain visibility since a panoramic view will be generated as if it were from a 120-meter cinema and can be seen from more points of the Alameda and the river.
Platform one and five and number two and four will have the material designed to make shots and metrics and generate very visual effects.
From the Fallas council they have recalled that there are many people who do Pyrotechnic Tourism in Fallas and that is why they wanted to create a screen effect and avoid traffic cuts as short as possible since it will go from a three-day setup with a cut off of Alameda Avenue to a matter of hours.
