The "Pirotecnia y respeto en Fallas" campaign will distribute up to 500 kits with safety glasses and anti-stress toys to people from sensitive groups
The Hour of Calm is established, between 9.30 and 10.30 am, during which noisy firecrackers should not be used

The Valencia City Council, together with the Junta Central Fallera and the sector associations of pyrotechnics, has launched the campaign "Pirotecnia y respeto en Fallas" to "improve the coexistence between pyrotechnics and society, promoting safety, respect and inclusion". This was explained today by the Fallas councillor and president of the Junta Central Fallera, Santiago Ballester, during the presentation of this initiative that aims to “give visibility to sensitive groups, provide means to cover their needs and make recommendations for civic use of fireworks accessible to all people”.
Regarding this year's new features, the manager of the Spanish Pyrotechnics Association (AEPIRO), Nicolás Magan, explained that the campaign poster seeks to give visibility to people from sensitive groups and promote the safe and respectful use of fireworks, and introduces the “Calm Hour”. He also spoke of the 500 sensory kits intended for people for whom the sound of fireworks is problematic. “They include earplugs, safety glasses, teething rings and anti-stress toys and will be available for collection at the Mira'm Foundation centres upon request”, he explained.
The Fallas councillor, who has recalled and valued “the work and sensitivity of the fireworks sector by promoting, for the second year, this campaign that this year has recommended an hour of calm, in which it is requested not to use noisy firecrackers to offer a quieter space to people with special sensitivities and that the Fallas Ordinance states that it must be respected every day, from 9.30 to 10.30 hours”. “It is also noteworthy - Ballester concluded - other actions carried out to help sensitive groups, such as the distribution of a sensory kit, or the creation of a document with easy-to-read rules of use”.
The manager of the Spanish Pyrotechnics Association (AEPIRO), Nicolás Magan, participated in the presentation of these actions. He explained that the “Pirotecnia y Respeto” campaign was born as a result of a positive comment on social networks, in which the mother of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) shared how her son enjoyed the New Year's Eve fireworks display in Valencia. “This comment motivated the Spanish Pyrotechnics Association (AEPIRO) to contact the family, thus beginning a collaboration with the Mira'm Foundation, the General Directorate of People with Disabilities, Plena Inclusión Comunidad Valenciana and the Fallas Council”.
“In initial meetings, representatives of the Valencian Pyrotechnics Association (Piroval) joined the initiative to seek a balance between the different groups affected by fireworks, both those who enjoy them and those who suffer problems due to noise. In this way, the objectives of the campaign were established, focused on coexistence and mutual respect,” he said.
“Aepiro has also prepared a compendium of rules and recommendations for the respectful and safe use of fireworks, adapted to easy reading by Plena Inclusión Comunidad Valenciana, a text that has been adapted and validated by people with intellectual disabilities, and which will be accessible through social networks and the Navilens Code disseminated by the General Directorate of People with Disabilities,” he concluded.
