Hamptons Extinguish Diddy's Fireworks
Diddy's annual White Party will no doubt cause fireworks—just not the kind he was hoping for.

The East Hampton Town Council has denied Sean Combs' request for a permit to put on an all-white fireworks display to coincide with his swanky monochromatic shindig on Sept. 2.

Despite approving the required permits to allow Diddy's infamous Labor Day White Party, a fixture on the summer social scene for nearly a decade, to carry on, East Hampton officials turned down the fireworks permit citing safety concerns.

Council members claimed the incendiary spectacular, which, in keeping with the party's theme, was set to include only white explosions, would act as a beacon, drawing ships and would-be water-bound revelers to dangerously rocky waters, increasing the chances of an accident in the area's Hedges Bank.

But that seemed to be a smokescreen for another concern: The town body had already approved permits for a fireworks display at a separate party taking place on a nearby beach the same night.

According to Newsday, Diddy had already brokered a deal with Long Island's Fireworks by Grucci to host what would have been, in true Diddy style, the biggest blast of the year, costing upwards of $100,000.

The White Party, a summer get-together for a few hundred of the rap mogul's closest friends which year in and year out is dubbed the Greatest Party of All Time will nonetheless go on as scheduled. And while only the crème de la crème of Hollywood seem to make the guest list cut, all must adhere to the to-do's strict dress code—all-white ensembles, from the footwear to the jewelry to the outfit, lest they be turned away at the door.

Past guests at the soiree have included Snoop Dogg, Hugh Hefner and a gaggle of Playmates, Bruce Willis, who once helicoptered in for the occasion, Paris Hilton, Ivanka Trump and Aretha Franklin.

Not the most convincing of reasons to pull the plug...

I bet the firework company in question were fairly annoyed as well. For that money I would have voulenteered to send out an armada of rib boats to warn off other craft.
