After many years of unsuccessful attempts, Funke's Brummer / Hummeln / Groundbloomflowers are finally here, in this version with titanium and a crackling finish.
I had wanted to realise this product for a long time, even before Covid. I had already found a factory in Hunan with promising samples based on my specifications, but they didn't want to label the item as it had been done in the past because it was too labour-intensive. Nowadays, labels are simply rolled around the tube together with the fuse, which then peeks out on one side under the label, which doesn't look particularly nice, and both ends of the tube are open – at the front, you can usually see white sealing compound, and at the back, the open tube. I, on the other hand, wanted the product to be exactly as I remembered it from the past, when my grandmother used to buy me thick firecrackers at the kiosk – both ends of the tube neatly sealed with red paper or paper with a floral pattern, the fuse attached after the label, and cellophane wrapped around the box.
And then, of course, a nice display packaging that can be unfolded nicely at the top.
I finally found what I was looking for in Guangxi at a factory that is still willing to carry out this work traditionally, as in the past, for an additional charge.
Then there is the function, of course – the firecrackers currently available for purchase usually only burn for 2-3 seconds, as they are pressed in a single pressing process to save time and material. We, on the other hand, press several times until the sleeve is full, resulting in a burning time of 8-9 seconds. Occasionally, however, the sleeves burn too far towards the end and the power is lost. Here, too, we have tested various sleeves etc. for months to get the best possible result, but a 100% result does not seem to be possible here. The colours are also quite light and do not have much colour depth, which is unfortunately always the case with this factory for all swirls.
In addition, there should actually be silver sparks at the beginning, which the factory did not implement because they were afraid of piercing the holes in the set with titanium, which carries a higher risk of ignition of the set and an accident.
The crackling should have been a little stronger, but the factory is very small and outdated and only specialises in small items, which is why they unfortunately do not have a star drum and can only granulate the crackling by hand, resulting in a slightly uneven finish. Nevertheless, some of the sparks fly quite far, which is why the item had to be classified as F2. However, the power of the swirls is better than in the normal version, and it is still a very fun item.
It is very important to note that the item must only be ignited on as smooth a surface as possible! The whirls will not work on gravel, dirt roads, cobblestones, etc.
I am already dreading the videos where people are disappointed with the item because they placed it somewhere where it cannot spin properly...
