Madurai, Jan. 6 (PTI): Three women died in a fire at a fireworks unit in the remote Poolavoorani village near Sivakasi in neighbouring Virudhunagar district.
According to police, the fire broke out when the crackers produced at the unit were being tested just outside a shed where six women were engaged in packaging works last evening.
While two women, Easwari (26) and Chandra (40) died at the hospital late last night, another one Latchumi (48) succumbed to injuries today.
The condition of the other three women was stated to be serious. An official of the fireworks unit has been taken into custody for initial enquiries, officials said.
