This is the official Grand Master flag of Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta.

Insignia of SMOM The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, better known as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta or SMOM, is a Catholic lay order that claims to be a sovereign entity and has permanent observer status at the United Nations. SMOM is considered to be the most direct successor to the medieval Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Knights of Malta, and today operates as a largely charitable and ceremonial organization.

It also symbolises the maltese cross ( George Cross ) that is in our flag.

About the shell: It is a multi break shell to us maltese knows as " Kulur ta' Tlett fethiet u Bomba " and symbolises the Grand Master flag.

I'm not sure if that was a multy break or not. It can be fired single or even in a multy break. It's just a typical color shell with a specific design. Maltese color shels (especialy found in multy-break shels but do not specificaly have to be in multy-break shells) are usualy very colourfully artistic. That can be called a 1/8 color shell since itss divided into eight sections. It also has the central light blue. 1/4 sections are also very popular. (what we call bil-kwartijiet).

Look at the picture below for some examples:

These are various shells with different color sections. Foe example the one on the bottom left is 1/4 in another 1/4 (green and orange). The one in the upper right is 1/4 with a full green and again with central blue. Look at the others as well as many other pics on the net that show these examples. (like the video Jonmif showed you with the star shape in the middle if you remember).

That is what I meant when I said that each traditional maltese shell should be fired one by one to admire each and every one's own artistic design.

Regards.

It probably is a Maltese cross or the grand master flag. It could also be just a taste of sectioned colors that the pyro that built it wanted to show.

The light green / blue in the middle is one nice 'not so comon' color.

mm I don't know exactly since I wasn't there when that shell was fired.
But here in Malta those types of shells range from 5 inch diameter to 8 inch diameter.
