Sydney '07 New Years Celebrated with Foti's Finesse!

A stunning fireworks display and a dazzling 30 metre wide diamond on the Sydney Harbour Bridge brought in 2007 last night and the Bridge’s 75th anniversary year. The fireworks on the Bridge and barges were launched digitally from 12 computers using 7,500 separate cues. The countdown to midnight featured entertainment on the harbour Every Hour on the Hour starting with the firing of the Fort Denison Cannon, Tiger Moth flyovers, a Fire Tug Display, sky writing, church bell ringing and an Indigenous smoking ceremony. The New Year’s Eve display by Foti Fireworks included a dazzling Bridge Effect which transformed throughout the night from a question mark, to a coat hanger, to a dazzling diamond in homage of the Bridge’s diamond jubilee.



. Approximately 11,000 shells, 10,000 shooting comets, and a total of 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects will be incorporated into the display.

· There are 86 firing points on the Sydney Harbour Bridge itself.

· More than 60,000 metres of wires and cables are required to interface with the computers to launch the display.

· Thirteen 20 foot shipping containers full of pyrotechnic resources are used for NYE which equates to 91000kg of equipment.

· There will be in excess of 3000kg of explosive devices launched into the night sky.

· 6000 hours of design and preparation have gone into Sydney’s NYE display using a Pyrotechnic crew of 35.

· The fireworks on the Bridge and barges are fully digitally launched, requiring 12 computers that will shoot a total of 7500 cues.

· For the first time the 9pm show will use four firing locations, two either side of the Harbour Bridge.

· The midnight show will include 7 main firing locations including the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There will be 3 barge positions on either side of the bridge and an additional 10 small pontoon barges on the eastern side.

· The Sydney NYE fireworks display is regarded as the largest and most technologically advanced annual fireworks display on the planet. They draw larger crowds than in New York, London, Paris or Berlin.

· The fireworks display will be designed and performed by Sydney’s Foti International Fireworks. This is the fifth year in a row that Foti International Fireworks has produced the entire show. Pyrotechnic Choreographers’ for NYE06 midnight fireworks are Fortunato Foti and for 9pm Family Fireworks is Tino Pangallo (cousins).

· The 2006 Bridge Effect is approximately 100m wide and 45m tall.

· 7,800m of rope light will be used to construct the effect and it is attached to a panel and truss system which uses over 50,000 cable ties.

· 2km of power cable is required to power the effect
