Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics Displays delivered a stunning pyrotechnics display that entertained an entire city and a global television audience of millions last night at the XV111 Commonwealth Games Opening ceremony in Melbourne.
Held at the MCG, the Opening Ceremony also incorporated special effects and pyrotechnics along the Yarra River and from seven building rooftops in the City of Melbourne in exact precision, controlled by state-of-the-art technology.
Last night, the pyrotechnics team delivered an incredible range of materials to produce the fireworks display and pyrotechn[ics including:
* 4 x 40 foot containers of specially designed pyrotechnic product and equipment
* over 19,000 meters of data cable to control the 280 pyrotechnic computer field modules
* 4 Computer Firing Controllers firing over 8,800 cues or individual pyrotechnic effects.
* 35 pyrotechnics crew on site
Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics Displays Director, Andrew Howard said he was delighted with the result.
“Some of the special effects we fired around the MCG rooftop, the Yarra River and the use of pyrotechnics on specially designed backpacks for roller bladders in the finale, have never been seen before. We were delighted with producing a pyrotechnics spectacular that complimented the overall Opening Ceremony produced by Ceremonies Executive Producer, Andrew Walsh and his team.�
“It is an enormous task to be able to synchronise between seven city building rooftops, thirty-six positions on the Yarra River, 55 positions around the MCG rooftop, the centre lighting truss and the custom built stage built in the MCG.
