TARRAGONA COUNCIL HAS PRESENTED THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR <<CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS>> OF TARRAGONA 2006 IN A VERY SPECIAL CALL
The organization of 17th Tarragona International Fireworks Contest, headed by Mr Carles Sala, member of the City Council of Tarragona, has presented the rules for the 2006 extraordinary edition: Champion of Champions. This call is restricted for the winners of six previous editions. A very scrupulous care in the specifications and the increase of the budgets has presided the preparation of this contest of the Mediterranean. The contest will take place between the 3th and 8th July.
The technical services of the City Council of Tarragona as well as those of the associated institution from the previous year, the City Council of Granollers, represented by Francesc Sala, have prepared special specifications for an special call. The rules contemplate not only the process of selection of the companies, but the characteristics of the different displays. The companies that will have option to participate are the winners of six previous editions. The organization has noticed the possibility that, if any of these companies could not attend the call, the one classified in the second position that same year would be selected. Therefore, the organization has already confirmed six displays for 2006 edition.
The winners of six previous editions have been three Spanish companies and three international ones. The Spanish ones are Pirogestió (Igual group), Ricardo Caballer, and Arco Iris (Turís group). The international companies are two Italian factories - La Rosa Lorenzo and Francesco Pagano (IPON)- and a Japanese corporation, Tamaya. The companies should send their documentation before 10th February, to be analyzed by the Selector Board on 13th February. A draw will take place in the City Council of Tarragona to decide the order of shooting on 15th February. Both the pyrotechnic companies and the media are invited to attend this draw.
Economical conditions
Carrefour company will be the main partner of the competition again, that joined seventeen years ago. Each participant will be paid six thousand euros more than last year, and all the prizes have also been increased. Thus first prize will be nine thousand euros, apart from being awarded the public firework displays that will take place during the Santa Tecla Festivities, in September to the value of 39,840 euros. The second prize will be doubled: six thousand euros. The special prize for the best Spanish company from the City Council of Granollers festivities increases until 18,000 euros. These improvements, demanded by specialists and pyrotechnicians, will contribute to guarantee a very exceptional edition.
International interest
The organization of the Champion of Champions and Tourist offices have already been asked about the contest from different countries: Holland, Germany, England, Sweden, Denmark, France or the United States, and also from other parts of Spain, like the Canary Islands and Basque Country. It’s said that the six participant companies will offer best of their products and designs, so an increasing interest has waked up between the professionals and fireworks fans. For that reason, this edition will be a wonderful professional pyrotechnics market.
The rivalries will be favored by the hard struggle between the great Spanish companies, but also between the two Italian participants. But Mr Carles Sala has also insisted on the powerful Japanese company, so it is not possible to discard to any of the participants in the fight for the three prizes. Two historical opponents, Ricardo Caballer and Francesco Pagano, will fight again for Champion of Champions like in the first edition eight years ago, when Pagano won.
Finally, this year the jury will offer daily the total score, so that the importance and consideration of Tarragona contest can continue growing.
