Fireworks back on for downtown Stockton

STOCKTON – Stockton will launch fireworks on the Fourth of July, officials said today, two months after announcing the cancellation of the Weber Point show.

A Galt man –– whom Deputy Fire Chief Dave Hafey called the “savior of the downtown fireworks� –– invited the city to launch fireworks from land he owns west of Weber Point. The point is so crowded on the Fourth of July officials said it was unsafe to launch fireworks there.

Ryan Voorhees will be paid nothing for letting the city launch fireworks from his land, on the south bank of Stockton Deep Water Channel, just west of Interstate 5. Voorhees said he “just wanted to see fireworks downtown� and “to help the city out.�
