Falla, artits Pere Baenas, already made some fallas of ayuntamiento before, in (link)2002, (link)2004 and (link)2007 (this one was quite good). In 2010 he made falla (link)Nou Campanar

Valencia, sport all the year

Is about Valencia as European capital of sport in 2011. There are in valencia traditional sports, valencian ball, etc.. and big events as americas cup, f1 and motorbikes.

With eight scenes this monument will reach 20meters height: outdorr Sportsr, sports in family, sports over wheels, athletics caricature, sports in the sea, orange trophy and the world of gymnastics

The infantile falla project choosen for 2011 is from artists Ceballos & Sanabria who have already made this falla in the years (link) 2008,(link)2009 and (link)2010 and they got very good reviews from press and people. Very didactic and children oriented fallas but also funny and easy to see and understand for everybody.

"a la tribuna del turia" in the platform of Turia

following the didactic line and choosing as main theme the Court of Waters and the river Turia and its irrigation channels.
Note: the (link to wiki)court of waters is known to be one of the oldest courts of europe. (link to web site) Tribunal de las aguas

The millenial Court of Waters meets as every thursday at 12 under the shadow of the Apostoles gate of the cathedral. The scene is watched by the river turia wihtout loosing detail , holding on his arm one of the city emblem since roman times, the horn of abundancy, linked to the fertility of the valencia land since ancient times

With the river are the irrigation channels as deities (8 irrigation channels, Favara, Tormos, Robella, Mislata, Mestalla, Benager-Faitanar, Rascanya , Quart)

It is also shown the court chronology, showing the musulman origin and how Jaime I keep all that system. Also the daily life in the farmlands of valencia.

Thanks for posting!

With the news for Fallas 2011 coming in bit by bit, my enthousiasm also rises! Already after less than a month fallas 2010 ended, the winning design for the Falla municipal is already known. Makes you realize how many time the people of Valencia put into Fallas every year and what a huge part it is of the Valencian Culture.

Also thanks for the clear explanation of the meaning of both Fallas! Always nice to understand the thougths and stories behind the fallas, it helpes to make you understand them better!

Can't wait to see both in real life next year!

Yes, fallas 2011 starts the day 20 of march right after the crema, fallas start to make public the possible artist for the next falla, it's like footbal teams in summer trying to bring good players, fallas try to keep their artist if they got a good prize or to bing other artist. Also artist change of falla if they get a better budget and the prestige of an historical falla.

Notice that the most important fallas of special section agreed to put a limited budget this year and height and number of ninots, after fallas they meet again and raised the budget to 190.000 (i think is more reasonable) and remove limits in height and numner of ninots and scenes, letting the artist to make his work as he want withing that budget. I bet there will be many undeclared money for some fallas... this is spain and undeclared money and working is a normal thing.

For example: Nou Campanar, that is quite a reduced budget! According to the link you posted in the starting post, of the Nou Campanar 2010 falla, the budget/cost of this year was around 600.000 euros. So a budget of 190.000 euro's is around 32% of this years budget! (so a reduction of 68%, that's quite a lot!). Allright, there will be quite some unexplained/undeclared money put into it, but it must effect the fallas in some way.

I'm curious how much the new budget will influence some fallas, as Nou Campanar. We will see I guess...

All the budgets now seem reduced.
But I'm sure that in Valencia rules and regulations are not always particularly ''holy''. Rules need to be interpreted flexibly and can always be bent!
Anyway, I'm sure that a lot of artists can make beautiful ninots for 190K.
Let's all hope that the money saved, now is going to extra fireworks and free bunuelos for everyone!
