Ricardo Caballer beats the wind with a historic mascletà
The pyrotechnician fired the 229 kilos of powder without fuses, in a totally electric assembly and assisted by 14 computers
Today's "mascletà" March 15, Ricardo Caballer 's new generation triumphed at the Gunpowder Cathedral and beat the wind . Until the last minute there was a real danger that the show would not take place due to the strong gusts of wind, but in the end the Valencia Fire Brigade gave permission for it to be fired and after 2:00 p.m. an event that had been awaited with great anticipation began.
In fact, it went on for "6 minutes and 4 seconds." Caballer's objective with this pyrotechnic bet is "to turn the conception of the mascletà that we have up to now. We want to change that concept both in its assembly and in its execution", he had advanced in the previous days. Once the show was over, Caballer explained that the "mascletà" had to be "with an asymmetrical rhythm" therefore "the difficult thing was to change the concept while maintaining the rhythm but improving it and not missing a single thunder".
At the end of the shot, Caballer went up to the balcony of the Valencia City Hall where he was acclaimed and cheered by the public, the guests, the authorities and the municipal workers . In fact, he did not stop taking photos and attending to the press and television. To questions from Levante-EMV, about whether he had changed any element of the "mascletà", the pyrotechnician pointed out that he had come out even better than he had planned and thought: "It came out better. I haven't touched anything. I was surprised how it came out, I wasn't so sure it was going to come out that well." As soon as she fired the shot, she said she felt: "25,000 times more joy because I was able to do it. Because not having shot it was a disappointment. Because I've spent many nights thinking about how to do it," she added. In addition, it was clear to him that it was the stage where he had to innovate: "We have to take risks in the best place in Spain than this. In the end, we have to take risks and do new things. We have to innovate. I had been thinking about it for a long time and I had not daring" but in the end the result was unique and historic. "She has been the best mascletá of the fallero cycle" said one of the components of the municipal corporation. The artist acknowledges that he "very much wanted to shoot at these fallas:
