BY LAND SEA AND AIR
Last night, on the second session of the competition, we could see one of the big Valencian pyrotechnic companies belonging to the famous family of the Caballers.
Pirotecnia ZAMORANO CABALLER S.A. came to Punta del Miracle with a good display that dominated perfectly all the space available on the stage, as most of the time they performed on land, sea and air simultaneously.
They started with a series of Italian shells that offered the two most common types of opening in this kind of fireworks: studata and multi-opening shells. In fact, such Italian shells were used throughout the display, and so were the aquatics as an accompaniment to air effects. There was always a perfect harmony between the effects fired into the air and those fired over the Mediterranean sea.
The commonly called luxury shells were plentiful as well, that is, big round shells or Japanese, which produce a really elaborate effect when opening, that, together with their big size, cause a sensation on the public. Some more remarkable effects were the farfalle, really consolidated, as expected, on sea and air.
Toward the end, the display was conducted in a typically Valencian style, with the tempos very well controlled up to the finale and then ending up with a wonderful golden curtain. All that was combined with an impressive air thundering that was also reproduced on water. Unfortunately, in this last section, a few single Roman candle effects were left over, which somehow broke the cohesion the finale should have.
No doubt the Valencian company came to Tarragona willing to make the public enjoy the display and to play a good role in the competition. However, as far as their participation in the competition is concerned, this company was disqualified, as the duration of their display was of 16 minutes 27 seconds, and did not reach the minimum 17 minutes established by the regulations of the competition in paragraphs 17 and 20. These sections specify that the time will be counted from the end of the luminous sign until the first of the three reports that indicate the end of the display. In spite of that, the lack of those seconds to get to the required duration does not minimize the good performance of this company.
Regardless of how sorry the members of the jury felt about it, they had to take this unpleasant decision so as to apply the regulations of the competition, obviously, and also out of respect for the other competitors. This is the second time in the history of the competition in Tarragona that such a situation has occurred.
