Well done to our friends of Luqa, it was a massive show but Luqa's show was far more professional and breathtaking. Very satisfied with the result, at least this time it was fairly done and the best won. Keep up the good work for our friends of Luqa.

Luqa, Kirkop, Ghaxaq fireworks awarded

The winner of the first edition of the Malta Ground Fireworks Festival, held last weekend at the Granaries, Floriana, is the fireworks group from Luqa, ‘Sant’ Indrija Socjeta Muzikali Unjoni’.

The well attended festival, on the eve of the feast of St. Publius, Floriana’s patron saint, saw 14 fireworks factories battling it out for a number of awards. Each competitor had the chance to exhibit two firework pieces. Luqa’s fireworks factory won two of the awards, one for the least gear mechanisms used, and another for the best used products.

Other winners included Kirkop’s Ghaqda tan-Nar San Guzepp, who won the award for the best work utilising chains, and Ghaxaq’s ‘Santa Marija’ fireworks factory. Mqabba’s ‘Madonna tal-Gilju’ fireworks factory won the audience’s choice award through SMS. This competitor obtained a total of 702 votes.

The jury for this festival included foreign experts from England, Italy, and Sweden. The jury’s chairperson was Joe Theuma, the Secretary of the Maltese Pyrotechnic Association.

The first video contains some unique driver colors and effects and was split into 6 phases and all were started with a remote control. This also had a unique few gear mechanizim of the flower petals.

The second video is more simple yet it gives out a very nice effect.

both were very nice and performed perfectly!.

The unique driver colors and effetcs also were a crutial part in the success. More videos soon and thanks for the comments.

With reference to Monday's article entitled Ground Fireworks On The Granaries, the Ghaqda tan-Nar tal-Gilju (Mqabba) won the SMS vote but did not have the best pyrotechnics, the prize for which was awarded to Sant'Andrija Socjetà Muzikali Unjoni (Hal Luqa). I have the same opinion on the sms voting (public opinion). It served only as a money making strategy for the local mobile phone companies.

Excellent videos, thanks. The mind boggles at the amount of time and effort that goes into these contraptions, it must take a lot of dedication and patience.
