That incident forced to rethink security measures and the following year doubled the height of the fence surrounding the strike zone, from 2.5 to 5 meters today

Today marks 10 years of the last major accident occurred in a "mascletà" faller. There was no fatality, but the 23 people injured, two of them seriously, were enough to reflect on the security of this pyrotechnic orgy. In fact, the following year rose to five meters short of the fence separating the fire from viewers.

Precisely the confluence mass of these two elements, gunpowder and people, is forcing organizers to take precautions to make the "mascletades" insurance acts, as no doubt they are.

The first fact that became mournful rethink that security was the accident at the "cream" of 1971, when a housing loss caused three deaths and 200 injuries. Thereafter and progressively been extended security perimeters to 30 meters and put a 2.5 meter go around the strike zone. Nor are shot and castles on the square, as the cartons and the reeds were a danger to staff.

Still, on 12 March 2000 the release of another 23 injured and caused housing reopened the controversy. Had to persevere in security. The following year, in fact, the fence went up from 2.5 to 5 meters and in later years were taking other measures, a proposal of their own fireworks, such as reducing the size of the enclosures to rise less.
