PyroMachina 2008 – 1st International Pyrotechnic Arts Gala is a unique interdisciplinary project covering various artistic activities involving fire from large-scale pyrotechnical events, to theatre of fire that integrates the theatre of movement and dance of fire, both rooted in traditional rituals, to performance and pyrotechnical installations.
PyroMachina offers a new quality in performance art. None of many fire-themed festivals around the world, including long established and high profile events, combines quite as broad a spectrum of activities related to the art of fire in one place at the same time.
With modern technology fire visualisations can take gigantic proportions. Combinations of complex constructions and mechanisms with pyrotechnical effects, gas installations and machineries produce unique images brought to life by colourful flames, cascades of sparks and smouldering coals.
The highlight of PyroMachina will be provided by four powerful 10 minute shows from Germany, Italy, Portugal and the Czech Republic competing against each other. All of the invited teams have won numerous prizes and awards in the most prestigious pyrotechnical competitions worldwide. A Jury composed of eminent representatives of the artistic world and pyrotechnical experts, will award the winner with a statuette of the golden PyroMachina designed by the eminent sculptor Jan Siuta.
The programme also involves a show of pyrotechnical images. Young artists selected in an art college competition will create graphics that will then be used to build truly burning pictures. The show of the unique works of art created together by artists and performance pyrotechnicians will be accompanied by music.
A show of steel and fire follows. Huge machines and installations, true symbols of PyroMachina, will be brought to life by the nature of fire. Eminent fire artists, fire theatres and pyrotechnicians will have an opportunity to show-off their work.
Poland’s best Stunt Team 13 will perform using various types of film pyrotechnics and special effects. Headed by Marek Sołek the team has participated in more than 200 film productions and more than 500 shows and stage plays.
Daylight pyrotechnics will make the first appearance in Poland and will be accompanied by acrobatic and dance shows with fire and smoke backdrops.
Top performers and masters of fire arts with their spectacular stage effects and a general public fascination with this type of entertainment are bound to ensure excellent reception and a huge turnout.
PyroMachina 2008 - 1st International Pyrotechnic Arts Gala will be staged at the Kraków’s centrally located Błonia mall on 2 and 3 August. Admission to the evening open-air event will be free of charge.
