A lot of points shooting were equipped with compressed air launch of
projectiles (to reduce noise and produce smoke) equipped with chips
MagicFire for the opening of shells. Everything was controlled by Pyrodigital
FC3 InfinityVision.

They used a system very similar as those installed in some
Disney Parks, but requiring a lot of maintenance (which explains the many
test phases)

Anyway, this show (the largest and most important of all
openings Olympics) is to cost a fortune!

Below, a few images from the site Pyrouniverse device Disney and
the Beijing 2008: (In France, Disney and Lacroix-Ruggieri have abandoned this system because it was very complex to implement and it required a lot of maintenance and it caused a lot of bugs)

Pyrotechnic products at low melting temperature also were used to reduce smoke and heat products on the stadium.

Locks and supports tyres on the last image of my last post,
used to all ceremonies (opening olympics, close, paralympic opening,
close), they are primarily made of carbon fiber, Kevlar and aluminium and
have been developed and assembled by the Chinese army.
Companies Lidu and Panda have sold their patent to the Chinese army. And the army
has developed the current system, especially to make it compatible with the
Pyrodigital.

It's still crazy! They still spent without effect, the ceremony
was generally beautiful and technically prodigious! The circular screen
around the stage and lighting was technically impressive!

The fireworks display opening (including the design, installation and
fire repetitions) were estimated at approximately 980 000 / 1 000 000 Euros. (budget
does not include research and development costs for specific media
and the launch system to compressed air)

The total budget pyrotechnics (for 4 ceremonies) is 3.5 Million Euros (+/-)

The maximum size of shells has been voluntarily limited for reasons of altitude. The ceiling Sky (mostly because of heat and pollution) is very low, there
allegedly took huge risks that the shells are not visible, if the sizes
were important.
The class was also limited because of the configuration of the place,
safety distances are relatively low.

The fireworks factory are:

Dancing Fireworks Group, Lidu and Panda group.

Some companies, such as Grucci in the U.S. or European companies
such as Lacroix-Ruggieri, Groupe F, V. Caballer ... would have responded to offers of
China, but were not accepted. The latter were considered somewhat innovative
by the Chinese, too expensive and not complying with enough specifications of
project. Some companies had bet big. In France, Lacroix-Ruggieri had
even installed specifically a branch office in China to try to be
partner and it is not enough!

That was kindoff to be expected as this is a great opportunity for the chinese to put there country in a good daylight to the rest of the world. Especially when it comes to fireworks I think the chinese fireworkscompanies would be a little bit offended if they would have hired a company, as good as their reputation is, from outside china.

Imagine the headlines on that story:

" China, Inventors of Fireworks, hires foreign company for the Olympic Games opening fireworks display. "

I do not think the chinese goverment would have considered any offer from an outside company.
