The increase in infections during the fallera week supports the suspension of the festivities

The new positives doubled from March 14 to 16 - There are already 69 deaths and 1,604 infected with coronaviruses in the Valencian Community

The official figures of the Ministry of Health, with the increase in cases of contagion and deaths from the coronavirus at the beginning of the failed Fallera Week, support the decision made by President Ximo Puig on March 10 to suspend the failures of 2020 .

Coronavirus and Failures 2020: confirmation of suspension
That news left Valencian society and economy in a state of shock, and caused a huge emotional impact on the Fallas group. But seen with distances the figures that have been released later, on March 15 and 19, the truth is that the statistics support the decision of the head of the Consell. Not surprisingly, in those 5 days 791 new positives were registered, almost half of the 1,604 cases of infected people that were announced yesterday as the last official balance.

Also on those dates, there was an intense rebound in the epidemic. On March 14 there were 94 infected; on day 15, that number doubled to 188; and on the 16th, 409 positives were reached, with another increase of 117.5% compared to the previous day. From there, since the day of Sant Josep (921 patients and an increase of 27% compared to March 18, 726), every day there has been a quantitative increase in new positives for coronavirus but with less abrupt percentages: 20 of March (1,105 infected, + 20%); March 21, (1,363, + 20%) and yesterday, Sunday, the 22nd, 1,604 with 241 new cases, which represented an increase of 17.68%.

As for the deaths, yesterday it was reported that the virus has already claimed 69 lives, 19 more than on Saturday and 56 more than on March 16, which closed with 13 deaths. This means that in just 7 days the number of deaths has increased by 300%. Of the 69 people who died, 40 are concentrated in Alicante, 25 in Valencia and 4 in Castelló. The total number of health professionals infected with the virus is 335 positives. In addition, there are 590 citizens hospitalized while up to 6,633 tests have been carried out with negative results.

UCI Committees to fight coronavirus
Meanwhile, more steps have been taken to prepare for the worst of this health crisis. The Minister of Health Ana Barceló announced the constitution of the control committees that have been established in each health department to coordinate the management of nursing homes throughout the Valencian Community, whether or not they have positive cases of coronavirus. These committees are made up of the director of Primary Care or management, Public Health, Occupational Risks, Home Hospitalization and other services.

In addition, different inspections will be carried out "to make sure that the occupational risk standards that have been recommended by public health are met," said Barceló.

These measures have been taken in view of the worrying figures offered by nursing homes and which are monitored daily. Not surprisingly, positive cases have been detected in 24 residences, with 93 residents and 51 workers affected; 143 quarantined employees, and 23 deceased. This last data assumes that 33.3% of those who died in the Community from coronavirus are related to a nursing home; and 40% of those who died in Alicante, with that of Alcoi.

At the same time, on Saturday the UCI's Coordination Committee was created to control and dispose of all resources within the Community, be they public or private hospitals, a body that has the participation of the Valencian Intensive Care Society. This committee will coordinate all the resources that go to the ICUs, in the three provinces, and also with those of private health. In fact, spaces or ICUs from private centers will be included.

Reyes Martí wins the battle against coronavirus

The Burriana pyrotechnic recovers after suffering the contagion two weeks ago and recognizes that "I do not wish to pass it on to anyone"

"I still have it, but I'm much better." This is how the Reyes Martí pyrotechnic said that it is in the last phase of recovery, after testing positive for coronavirus several days ago.

Reyes Martí, with coronavirus
The fireworks were contagious after firing the mascletà in Valencia on March 8, which was the penultimate "mascletà" of the fallero cycle, in the year in which I was 20 years shooting in the square, specifically, "on the 13th I started to feel the first symptoms of the coronavirus, but the fever was declared on the 15th. "

She did not undergo Covid-19 testing "because they asked me at the Health Center and I had absolutely all the symptoms. Since then they have been monitoring me and I also have a medical friend who has cared about me." And although she hasn't needed hospitalization, "I've spent a few days that I don't wish on anyone. Incredible fever breaks, little by little, exhaustion, all day in bed, I had a thread of voice, a cough that didn't I'll pass it on to no one. " Since then, his life has been "rest, paracetamol and water. All the world, almost to nausea. But it was necessary. It was precise."

The spread of the coronavirus not only reached Reyes Martí, but it also reached her husband and, much more lightly, her son and daughter-in-law, who will make her a grandmother soon "and I want her to be well recovered." Burriana's pyrotechnic is overwhelmed "by the number of people who have called me encouragingly." For example, with the publication that Councilman Pere Fuset has made on his social networks. Now, for the moment, she remains confined at home, waiting to recover as quickly as possible and start thinking about how to save a season that, for the pyrotechnic sector, has been complicated.
