[Documentary] Firecracker and Fuse Manufacturing in China

Here is a cool video inside Chinese firecracker and fuse factories. The video is a bit slow and could easily be edited down to half of the 40 minute length without losing any content, but is still very interesting. It is fascinating to see how much work is done by hand, and almost hard to believe they can make enough firecrackers in this way to meet demand. The firecrackers in this video seem to be for domestic Chinese use, which makes me wonder if there is a different (perhaps more technologically advanced) way of making the kind we see in the US. They don't measure the flash powder, and it looks like a lot more than 50mg, so perhaps the stuff we get is made some other way. I wish there were some interviews with people from the factory instead of just the narrator, but it is still very interesting.

Great documentary. If anyone knows another documentary like this, or stumbles on it, then please let me know. I know for example "BNN Azie", "Modern Marvels", "Fireworks - an explosive story", "Fireworks" (by George Plimpton)

Amazing footage! Haven't seen it before.

Any tips on how to save it to my harddisk as .wmv or .avi?

Hey Vavoom,

That worked for me using Keepvid.com. It resulted in a file of ~ 247 Mb. That wouldn't play with my Windows Media Player 10, since it requested a special codec(?)... {Don't know what it is but something in the file properties mentions DIVX 384x314 29.97fps ?? } But Media Player Classic with K-lite did it for me, and that plays fine... Good luck!

That worked like a charm, HP.

You'll probably be able to play it with WMP 10 as well if you change your settings. Go to Extra -> Options and tic "Codecs automatisch downloaden".

Firecrackers for export are build the same way.
In china a lot of things are produced by hand because it's cheaper then to develope a machine like we do in the west.
Thats also why the quality of products from china is that poor.

The measurement of the powder is done by hand with a special tecniek as you can see in the film.
Al those tubes are filled with almost the excact amount of powder wich is required.
