The 16th Fireworks displays competition of Tarragona started yesterday with the firing by the company Lidu from China. This Eastern company offered a display full of the typical Chinese cakes and different effects of round shells, mainly peonies.

The burning of the sponsor’s name sign, Carrefour, showed the smoke was blowing towards the public. However, the breeze was enough to prevent it from staying in the same place.

The beginning consisted of a two-level front formed by a group of three mechanized cakes with progressive fan firing at the bottom and at the top a series of green peonies with a red pistil. This kind of effect was repeated during the display with different colours. Outstanding was the grouping formed by some feeble mines and some bees at the bottom. Several times, geometric forms appeared, like multiple-rings, kaleidoscopes and some good rings with a blind peony later. There were also some crosette effects but especially remarkable were the cracker spiders ending with a mosaic.

During the first aquatic sequence (peonies) one white cracker effect burst in the mortar.

There’s no doubt the best effects were three: the splendid kamuros with delicate green cracker; the accurate combination of white fountains on the water with gold willows that included slow-falling focuses (tilted so that they could fall on the former); and finally, the geometric forms with rings including a kaleidoscopic effect.

All these compositions mentioned above were always followed by salutes. When the fronts had two levels, with cakes at the bottom, these finished burning before the effects at the top, which made the structure seem a bit orphan. The cakes also presented another problem: even at the firing moment they seemed not to follow the same pace as the others.

Right before the finale, a good kamuro front painted the sky with the same pattern used all along the display, combining fire at two levels.

The public really appreciated the worm parachute shells with Chinese lanterns.

The strong finale started emphatically, it was long and with a high fire density. It was always accompanied by a good lower part and it included chrysanthemum and coconut effects of high quality. The final series of salutes, really well-developed, wasn’t the real end, as a few cakes kept burning after them.

It’s worth mentioning that the display included a few sequences formed by high-quality material. For example, the peonies were perfectly round, which is not very common nowadays.
