NIBONG TEBAL, THU.: Police yesterday seized 117 cartons of firecrackers and fireworks worth about RM100,000 that was kept in a lorry parked at Jalan Tok Mahat here.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief, Supt Zainal Abdul Aziz, said a nine-man police team led by Chief Inspector Mohd Sani Mohd Ali seized the fireworks around noon.
He said a 36-year-old suspect has been detained for investigations and will be charged under Section 8 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1957.
He faces a maximum seven years jail or RM10,000 fine or both.
