150 kilos of gunpowder and five finals: this will be the mascletá on March 8 in Valencia

We spoke with M.ª José Lora, from the Caballer FX pyrotechnics, about what it means to shoot the 8M in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València

The mascletá on March 8 in Valencia is one of the most watched. And it is that his shot coincides with the commemoration of International Women's Day. As is customary, a pyrotechnic woman is in charge of directing the firing of the mascletá in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València, and this year this responsibility has fallen to M.ª José Lora , owner of the Caballer FX pyrotechnics . Today, we speak with her to find out more details about her shooting.

With a duration of five minutes, "the shot on March 8 will have 150 kilos of regulatory material, aerial shots, a ground mascletá that will cover the entire square and five finals." A show that, surely, will once again make all the people who gather vibrate, on March 8, at 2:00 p.m., in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València.

It is the third time that M.ª José Lora has shot in Valencia on the occasion of 8M , but she assures that this feeling of “responsibility” remains intact. “It is a very special day because it is not only one of the most viewed mascletás, but it is a source of pride to be able to shoot on such a special day as March 8”. Thus, she points out that "I really wanted to shoot again and I hope that the people who come to the square enjoy the show."

Pyrotechnics Caballer FX

Caballer FX is one of the classic fireworks in the shots of the Fallas de Valencia. In fact, she was in charge of putting the touch of gunpowder at the inauguration of the Ninot Exhibition, and she will shoot again on March 4 at the Falla Maestro Gozalbo - Conde Altea, at 8:30 p.m., with an experimental mascletá ; such as Sunday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m., at Gas Lebón.

However, and although in all the shots "you feel the warmth of the people", the truth is that he affirms that "nowhere like in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento". And it is that as M.ª José Lora recounts, “ it is a unique feeling . It is an emblematic place for the city of Valencia and shooting there is always very special”.

Finally, and despite the fact that the Valencia City Council, every year, increases the budget for fireworks, the truth is that for Lora " more recognition and more economic injection " is needed. “These two years of the pandemic have been very hard for the sector, but we are also facing a general increase in the cost of materials. It is true that the Valencia City Council is keeping its word to raise the price of shots, but more help and recognition is needed to promote generational change”.

Pyrotechnics is one of the trades that, without a doubt, forms part of the Valencian identity. For this reason, it is essential to protect it from the passage of time. “There are few manufacturers left and without promotion and, above all, training, this craft trade could disappear. What we want is for the new generations to be convinced that the world of pyrotechnics has a professional outlet and, for this, more resources are needed”, Lora concluded.
